A bright smile can light up your face, but a dull stained one can make you look old and unkempt. Zoom Whitening is a bleaching process that can dramatically lighten your teeth, erasing the effects of aging, smoking, and eating or drinking foods that stain. In only about an hour, your smile can go from embarrassing to brilliant.
Consultation
The first step is having your teeth and gums examined to make sure your oral health is good. Often treatment for oral health conditions is recommended before undergoing teeth whitening. Your dentist will ask about your lifestyle and eating habits to help determine which whitening method is best for you. Also, you will be advised that certain dental work like veneers or bonding may not respond to whitening like your natural teeth.
Treatment
You can expect the Zoom procedure to last about one hour. First, your lips and gums will be covered for protection so that only your teeth are exposed. Hydrogen peroxide whitening gel will be applied to your teeth, and then a special Zoom light will be used to enhance the process of the gel penetrating your teeth and dislodging stains. You can relax, listen to music, or use electronic devices during the fifteen minutes that the gel is in place and the light is activated. There are usually three sessions of light activation, making a total of 45 minutes of treatment time. A fluoride gel will be applied to the teeth afterwards to limit sensitivity.
Aftercare
You will be provided with a Zoom touch-up kit for use at home. It includes whitening trays that your dentist will explain how to use, and may also include a Zoom whitening pen. Avoid foods and drinks that stain teeth, such as coffee, tea, red wine, dark sauces, and more. Do your best to quit using tobacco products, as they will stain teeth even after whitening treatment. Maintain good oral hygiene practices, including using a whitening toothpaste if your dentists suggests it. With proper care, the results of Zoom whitening typically lasts about a year.
